Lighting Plus had its beginning in 1947 when George Mouchette and Ed Dockery started a motor rewinding and servicing business called Eddie's Electric Motor Service. Lighting products and major appliances were added as a contractor trade division was established. When George and Ed's partnership was dissolved in 1971, George Mouchette took over the lighting and appliance division. He named this newest business Lighting & Appliance, and his wife Hazel and their son Brooks joined him. New products were added as business grew; table lamps brought the company into the retail arena. In August of 1978, Lighting & Appliance moved to its present location on McFarland Boulevard in south Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and later change its name to Lighting Plus because of the growth of decorative products. Today, it is one of Alabama's premier lighting showrooms. Lighting Plus has three sister stores at the present time. Shoals Lighting, located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Lighting Plus of Columbus, Mississippi, and East Gate Gallery in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, an exclusive appliance and outdoor living store. All stores carry similar product mixes with the exception of appliances, which are displayed exclusively at East Gate Gallery.
